The Gift of Hiddenness
Everyone desires to be seen, but few are willing to embrace seasons of hiddenness
Many of us forget the 30 years Jesus lived before starting his ministry
We don’t get much detail and insight of what He did. We can infer from the text that as a carpenter’s son, this is what he most likely did
In Luke 2:52, it states something that most people skip; Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature
“And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.” Luke 2:52
Those 30 years he was growing.
He was living an ordinary and mundane life.
I can imagine Jesus spending his days perfecting his carpentry.
There is a certain message we miss of the dignity of an ordinary human life and labor; there is a treasure to be found
There is nothing glamorous about growth; it isn’t linear, but it is necessary
The Father did not have Jesus skip those 3 decades of hiddenness on purpose.
Growth is most effective in the secret; in the hiddenness
I am talking to myself here when I say that I don’t want to be hidden.
The truth is we are made to be seen and known; it’s a human nature.
And this isn’t wrong, but we need to ask ourselves where is my need to be seen and known being placed.
When we misplace the need for being seen and known, then the addiction and idol of wanting applauses and validation from man starts to form.
It starts to grow and grow until you see that you can’t live without it
It becomes an endless craving, an addiction that is never fully satisfied and won’t be
Until your face to face with emptiness
The purpose in your hiddenness is to grow
In the hiddenness I can heal as much as possible for my future
In the hiddenness I can grow in maturity, faithfulness and love
In the hiddenness I can learn what it actually means to live before an audience of one
In the hiddenness, it’s just His eyes that see me
I am learning and growing to understand that, that is enough
What a privilege it is to grow with God in the secret
What privilege it is to cultivate history with God
In the shadow of His wings I am safe
If You dwell in the hidden places, I will teach my soul to delight in the place You have me.
